World Series Adventure Racing comes to Ireland...
The Turas Mór takes place in the South West of Ireland from
June 15-21, 2008.
A passionate team of local adventurers who know and love the area
are running this race with its roots deep in the community. Touching
all 5 peninsulas of the South West of Ireland, this journey through
Ireland will inspire and humble.
At certain transition points, traditional music and food festivals
will greet competitors when they arrive. Here athletes will be
able to stock up on local “slow food” before continuing
on the Turas.
This race will finish for all competitors on the Solstice. A mid-summer
night party will banish any doubts as to the Irish ability to host
the best party / festival ever in Adventure Racing. Famous bands,
ferocious dancing, pigs roasting on sticks and all the ancients
stones in alignment will keep competitors awake long after the
race has ended.
Why is it called a Turas?
The Turas tradition remains deep in the Irish psyche today. It
represents a journey of the soul through the physical connection
with the Earth.
The wealth of Ireland’s myth is unmatched anywhere in the
western world and our culture and landscapes of Ireland hold rich
traditions around the Turas. Sacred landscapes host spiritual pilgrimages
that date from the earliest human settlement here. It is a unique
connection that has been enriched over thousands of years, intermingled
from the distant and varied cultures of our pagan past through
to the present.
